Cheltenham Festival 2019
|
The beginning of the new year means only two things; we focus on a West Ham cup run and European push , plus we are only 10 weeks away from the Festival!!!
As last year , I will do my best in posting preview nights but at this point I need to bolster my ante post pot and I am REALLY struggling this year to get anything going of quality.
I have already wasted money on the following
Summerville Boy to win Champion Hurdle BattleOverDoyen to win Supreme Novices (looks destined for Baltimore) and Wholestone to win Stayers Hurdle
I would love to know what people remain confident on for Cheltenham ? I have had 14's for Apple Jade to win the Stayers as I reckon they may fancy that this year instead of the Mares which is her obvious target.
Can Laurinha beat Buveur D'air? What wins the Arkle as everything is getting beaten Presenting Percy is yet to be seen does that worry you
Lets talk Horses............

Cheltenham Preview Night – 26th February 2019 Panel Luke Tarr – Star Sports (LT) Luke Harvey – ITV presenter/Ex Jockey (LH) Paul Kielly – Racing Post scribe and tipster (PK) Bill Esdaile – City AM Racing (BE) Mick Fitzgerald – Ex Top Jockey and legend (MF) Day 1 Supreme Novices Hurdle MF – Fakir D’Oudaries receives 4lb re 4YO Elixir De Nutz is the value bet Re Angels Breath Henderson says we haven’t seen the best of him yet PK – Al Dancer has a massive chance, need a strong pace. He wouldn’t back at 5/2, the value has gone. Fakir D’Oudairies has a great chance Sam’s profile (if it goes here) will run a big race at a price LH – Angels breath will improve. Al dancer the most likely LT – Al Dancer is his one ante post bet. The value lies with Elixir De Nutz and Grand Sancy BE – Thomas Darby is the fancy The Arkle PK – Lalor had a bad run in December and not run since which is a concern. Glen Forsa is a good thing and a great jumper MF – Glen Forsa his concern is it’s back in trip. Lalor has had a bad prep. Defi Du Seuil if ground slow (but may go JLT) His pick is Lalor LH – He sticks with Lalor. Best performance he’s seen this year was Cheltenham in November. Believes Defi Du Seuil better over 2.5m LT- Glen Forsa has been eye catching. Ornua went close to Dynamite Dollars which is good form BE - Ornua e/w
Champion Hurdle MF – In Buveur D’Air camp and the faster they go the better. Melon 16/1 e/w or market without BD is great value, if you see money coming for Melon then go for it. PK – Laurina is shit. Re Apples Jade it does not run well at Cheltenham, of her 20 runs her runs at Cheltenham are 14th and 17th in terms of performance. LH- Buveur D’Air is his selection. Apples Jade will make the pace. LT – Buveur D’Air should be 5/4. Laurina is a joke price. Apples Jade does not have Cheltenham form. Other day 1 Ultima PK – Give me a copper ran well Sandown and Paul Nicholls told PK he is very classy. LH – Mister Whittaker is overpriced for this National Hunt Chase PK – OK Corral is a lay, Henderson doesn’t win nationals/long races. He prefers Champagne Classic. LH – Ok Corral is class and will win MF – Discorama was second in Martin Pipe and wherever he runs back him Mares Hurdle PK – Bennie Des Dieux will win Day 2 The Ballymore PK – Champ is a good horse. There’s a few negatives re his age and winners of the Challow Hurdle don’t tend to win this race. Getawaytrump if he runs is a decent bet. Also, value (NRNB) for the coral cup. Sams Profile has a chance in this MF – Likes Battleoverdoyen, good jumper and likes it fast, unbeaten and we’ve not seen the best of it yet LH – Champ travels well and is experienced, Newbury win was impressive. Birchdale is interesting (not sure it will run here) but Champ to win LT – Champ too short, 7YOs have an appalling record in this race. Birchdale and City Island e/w BE – Would watch City Island go down and if settled is good value
RSA PK – Topofthegame should be favourite. Delta Work not as good as him. MF – Topofthegame unlucky in the Feltham and has Cheltenham form (second in Coral cup last year). Santini is running on the wrong track as a real stayer. LH – Santini not had a run and not galloping right now, so that’s a concern. Topofthegame, this race will play to his strengths. If soft Vinndication e/w LT – Topofthegame needs to be shorter BE – Ok Corral NRNB Champion Chase MF – Altior PK – Altior LH – Altior and Lady Button e/w LT – Altior will win BE – Min e/w Other day 2 Coral Cup PK - likes Getawaytrump Cross country They all like Tiger Roll The Bumper PK – likes Meticulous MF – Mullins horse Blue Sari Day 3 JLT PK – Defi De Seuil and Lostintranslation are not that good. Kildisart has great form and has beat some good types. Also, Spirit of the game at 33/1 LH – He likes Lostintranslation MF – Defi De Seuil if he runs LT – most of them won’t run, look for some e/w value now BE – Real Steel is the value here Ryanair LH – This is a good race for Frodon, not the Gold Cup. Waiting Patiently, he liked before it ran so flat so he has deserted him. Monalee to win. MF – Monalee Cheltenham will suit him and he thinks it will win. PK – Nicholls should run Frodon in this re it’s RPR. Monalee is not that good and he thinks The Storyteller is value but it needs pace in the race. BE – If the Storyteller goes the coral cup he will be 20lb lower!. He thinks Monalee is the best bet of the whole meeting and this is his trip. LT – Monalee is not for him and he will lay both that and Footpad Stayers MF – He can’t warm to Paisley Park, if they go fast though he thinks it will win. However, his pick is Penhill with its great record. PK – Black Op wants soft. Paisley Park should win. Faugheen has a chance but is getting old. LH – Likes Black Op ignore last run, needs soft ground BE – Faugheen e/w and had a strong word for Kilbricken storm at a price LT – Penhill is a very strong horse Other day 3 Mares novice MF – Henderson really like the French horse Epatate Kim Muir Be – Now McGinty PK – Barney Dwan has festival form (at which point MF told him to fuck off) Pertemps PK – NotwhatIam 33/1 laid out for this race MF – Tin Soldier, third at Punchestown festival and has strong form
Day 4 Triumph Hurdle MF – Sir Erec has amazing flat form just off Stradivarius. Fakir will not be taking him on that’s how good his is. PK – Sir Erec form not great, last race was very slow and it wasn’t top form. All UK horses are shit. Gardens of Babylon e/w (NRNB) LH – Sir Erec is very good, got heart, speed and stamina. Will probably go on and win this. LT – Happy to lay Sir Erec BE – Sir Erec will ned up odds on Albert Bartlett PK – The average winning price is 16/1. You need battle hardened horses, he fancies Dinons and Derrinross LH – Commander of Fleet is a worthy favourite. Likes Dickie Diver re value at 10/1 LT – Agreed you need battle hardened, avoid favourites and go for value MF – Dickie Diver is a god horse. Commander is crying out for 3 miles BE – Relegate overpriced at 14/1 The Gold Cup MF – Presenting Percy is a monster but has not had ideal prep. Mullins likes Bellshill and skipped usual prep run route- good e/w value PK – Kemboy e/w and Al Boum Photo e/w LH – Presenting Percy must have had an issue re no prep run. Clan Des Obeaux continues to surprise. He likes Kemboy BE – Kemboy is Mullins no.1, if soft Elegant Escape e/w Others day 4 LH – Ucello Conti in the foxhunters is one of the best bets of the meeting PK – Mengli Khan in the grand annual of a great mark and Brio Conti in the martin Pipe BE – Magic Saint in Grand Annual NAPS LT – Al Dancer and Topofthegame LH – OK Corral and Ucello Conti PK – Give me a copper and NotwhatIam MF – Epatante and Topofthegame BE – Monalee and Now Mcginty We had a group win Yankee for the meeting – Topofthegame – RSA Epatante – Mares Novice Give me a copper – Ultima Al Dancer – supreme

Cheltenham Festival is on a different level for me - can beat hitting the Guiness village with Alan Brazil and Ally McMoist!
As it stands my stand out fancies are;

Betfred tried to entice me back today with a free 5 pound horse bet.
It just came 2nd to a 42 race maiden that was 40/1.
THAT is why I only watch them and save my money :o)
Let's hope the weather is like it is now for Chelts.

Agree with Grumps... it's the day out for me.. either with MATES or family... try to take in 4 or 5 meetings a year and absolutely love it... Champions Day we do every year since it started and it's one of the best days out in sport now... love the history behind it... the emotion... the real life stories of Jockeys, trainers and owners... and obviously the magnificent beasts... love researching the blood lines... if you ever get a chance go to Newmarket and spend a weekend doing the gallops, the museum and the studs... different world...

I've even been to race meetings and not had a bet, though I love ALCOHOL!!
Horses are magnificent beasts, but generally only have the odd dabble on tips stuck up on here, as I like a laugh and can afford to lose the odd fiver and am too lazy to study form.
Hardly ever back anything at Cheltenham nowadays, just love watching it and realised after a couple of nasty weeks that I enjoyed it more if I didn't have a bet on anything as can take more of it in that just watching the silks of what I was on.
Do my bollocks on cricket and football without also getting involved in these fuckers!!! ;o)

Yeah that was the one inbetween all the Kauto Star and Denman wins... loved the built up rivalry they done with all the kauto and Denman scarfs.... I mean hardly enemies as they used to box next together at Ditcheat but it was still good fun... proper times.

Best win at Cheltenham GC was Imperial Commander in 2010, was on at 9's against odds on Kauto Star. Sadly died of a heart attack a couple of years ago.

I had a great Cheltenham last year.. started off with a score in my account and by the end of the 4 days had turned that into a Trip to Normandy and a paid off trip to Majoraca with mates.. think I ever won or came 2nd with the WHO Naps as well.... everything I did seemed to come off including backing Native River... like I said unless we have a deluge I think the ground will go against him.. this could quite easily be a Lord Windermere type of year in the GC as in a lot of the races... might be a week to get a pitch over there and make a few bucks

Hmmm...I backed Native River last year. My only bet of the meeting.
However, unlike the season before he was laid out for the race.
More to the point, as a TRENDSMAN the biggest TREND of them all is that it's fucking hard to win back to back Gold Cups. Last years race has probably left it's mark.
Clan is a young improver and set for a big run. Won the King George fair and square. 2 recent Grade 1s in the bag.
